How can we help your user group?
Part of our mission here at PowerShellCommunity.org is not only to provide a great online community, but also to help nurture and support local user groups throughout the world that focus on Windows PowerShell. We can list you in our User Group Directory to help other users find you, and we give you the ability to add your meetings and other group-related events to our events calendar.
For user groups that are just starting out, we can help provide a "Pizza Fund" for meetings to help attract those hungry PowerShell users in your area, and we can provide raffle prizes from our sponsor companies that you can use to help drive attendance. We also provide PowerPoint decks, pre-recorded presentations, software, PowerShell demo scripts, and other materials that you can use as the main content of your meetings.
Ready to start a PowerShell user group in your area? Here's what to do:
Survey the Competition
Please see if a user group already exists in your metropolitan area. If one does, we'd encourage you to check that out before launching your own, competitive group. Our user group directory is a good way to see what's available already.
Drive Interest
Start by recruiting in our forums - you're welcome to post a message seeking other folks in your area. You can also submit an entry to our user group directory - just be sure to select a status of "forming," so that folks know you're not yet having meetings. You can use our User Group Business forum to work out the time for your first meeting, if you like.
Have a Meeting
When you have enough interest, have you first meeting. Email directors@powershellcommunity.org for a First Meeting Kit, which will include a signup sheet. If you get at least six folks, you can send us the signup sheet and we'll give you access to the special areas reserved for user group leaders, including meeting materials. We'll also contact you about additional support programs that we can provide. That First Meeting Kit contains more information about what we can provide, and what standards your group need to meet in order to continue receiving support.
