While PowerShellCommunity.org is legally owned by the PowerShell Business League (see Community > About from the menu), we're interested in making this a community that meets YOUR needs. To that end, we're inviting one and all to apply for membership on an Advistory Committee. Our Committee will primarily "meet" via e-mail, and will discuss how the community can be made better.
But there's a catch: You can't be a member of the Committee if you're an "ideas" person, but not an "action" person. Membership will be restricted to those folks who are willing to put their money where their mouth is an actually become a *part* of the community, and *implement* change for the better.
How can you do that? We have several areas of the community that require moderation: The ScriptVault, Cmdlet Directory, Product Directory, Website Directory, FAQ, Wikis, and more. Right now those are all moderated essentially by... well, me, and a couple other folks who check in from time to time. But they need regular attention (weekly, at least) from committed folks.
There are a number of areas of the community that have raised suggestions for improvement - only those suggestions would require some light, long-term oversight to make sure things work well. So we're actively looking for community members who want to lend a helping hand - and those folks get the benefit of being a driving voice behind the community's growth and change, too.
So if you're interested, drop me a line at don [at] sapien (dot) com. Let me know how you'd like to help out - look at something in the community that you think could improve, and that you'd like to "own," and we'll put you in charge of it. You then get to help steer other changes in the community through e-mail based discussion with other community builders.
Come, join us :).

Some more detail on how this will work: I'll be responsible for forming the initial Committee, to ensure that it's core are people who are truly interested in working to make the Community better. Once formed, however, the Committee will be autonomous, and will be welcome to invite and include anyone they like. I won't be a primary participant in the Committee - as the Director of the Community, my role will be to take whatever suggestions the Committee comes up with and either implement them, or help the Committee implement them. The main role of the Committee is to generate consensus prior to making changes to the site. That way, major changes to the site aren't made unilaterally by myself or one of our sponsors, but rather by a group of interested peers. The Committee's final recommendations will be posted publicly, so that everyone can see both the recommendations and their follow-through. My goal is to keep the Community as open as possible, while ensuring that as many people as possible have input into its growth - while at the same time acknowledging that this isn't my full-time job, and that I need help if I'm to gather than consensus and implement suggestions. |

Yes indeed, you fleshed the concept out very well. I'll say here that I can assist in moderation. That sounds weird, let me try again. I can help moderate. :) |

We've had some good response thus far; I'll work on getting a mailing list set up along with other supporting areas of the site. |

I've added a "Community Business" forum as well as a "Suggestion Box" sub-forum; I've also created a Community Advisory Committee mailing list and invited those are are thus far offering to participate in it. We'll get things organized and kicked off in the new year. |

I would also be very interested in assisting. Since I script regularly at my daily job, I could probably contribute in that area from time to time. But if you still need the hands (and minds), let me know :) |
